FAQ about Coolsculpting
What Is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting® is a technology using controlled cooling to reduce fat cells in troublesome areas that diet and exercise sometimes cannot reach. The procedure is non-invasive with no downtime, making it a popular method of fat reduction. Approved by the FDA, the CoolSculpting® procedure freezes the fat cells until they die off and are absorbed by the body delivering lasting results. The procedure lasts about an hour and, because of its non-invasive nature, patients spend the time in a relaxed state where they read, watch TV, or even sleep. Results are visible in as little as three weeks, with more dramatic results appearing after about three months.
One of the great things about the CoolSculpting® procedure is that, unlike more-invasive methods of fat removal, it doesn't require incisions, needles or any type of anesthesia. You're able to return to your daily activities immediately after your treatment session is over.
How Does CoolSculpting® Work?
CoolSculpting® targets the fat cells beneath the skin and cools them to temperatures cold enough to freeze. This technology is called Cryolipolysis®. During Cryolipolysis® fat cells become frozen allowing your body’s natural metabolism to shed them away, effectively reducing bumps in the skin. For six months after treatment the body will continue to shed the fat cells. There is no damage done to surrounding tissue, though you may feel a burst of cold air followed by dull pressure. In some cases, slight bruising may develop but subsides within a few hours or days depending on the amount of bruising. There is no downtime with CoolSculpting®. Patients can continue with their usual daily routine and activities immediately after the procedure.
CoolSculpting® treats the subcutaneous fat layer which is considered resistant to diet and exercise. It's the fat you can pinch and is responsible for the classic "muffin top" or "spare tire" we see through our clothes. Patients can be at their ideal body weight and still have these localized fat bulges. If you have soft grabbable fat then most likely you are a good candidate forCoolSculpting®.
How Many Treatments Are Necessary?
You can see visible results after just one treatment. Your specific goals will determine whether you need to repeat the treatment. There is no harm in repeating the process. Generally, about two to three months after your initial procedure is the best time to capitalize on repeat treatments for additional benefits, toning, and sculpting. You and your doctor will be able to work together to determine how many sessions will be needed to reach your specific goal.
